Well, this is where it all started for Quality Coatings. About 10 yrs ago, one of my first projects on my own was right here at Lima Cook Self Storage. Since our first meeting, we’ve worked together on three other storage facility’s ( Dupont Office and Storage, Southwest Self Storage and Stelhorn Crossing ) and now here we are full circle.
The concern here was in their front office (with the expansion of the other storage facility’s, the original office at Lima-Cook has become the red-headed stepchild of the other three). Our challenge was to simulate a ceramic tile look to mirror the newer offices, but this office was smaller so we had to scale it down a tad. The pictures below break down the several steps it took to achieve this look (as you can see, this was not an easy task).
After the base coat was down, we carefully hand taped the 1 foot tile grid-pattern making sure the lines were perfectly straight (then we applied our texture coat). Several hours later, the tile pattern came to life after we pulled the tape. Utilizing two different colors, we had to antique the darker tiles one at a time and assuring not to contaminate the lighter tiles (a very tedious and time-consuming task). Once that was completed we applied a diluted version of our antique solution over the entire floor to create a weathered look. Finally, we finished it up with a couple coats of an industrial grade epoxy.
The customer’s concern of not being able to clean the floor was put to rest after we gave them a surface that is easy to clean and maintain. Not only that, but we were able transform their surface and give them that “modern look” that they wanted.
P.S. I just want to say what a pleasure it’s been working with Fort Wayne Storage. You Guys Rock !!!
